Key benefits

Lemon balm is often used to help promote relaxation and reduce stress. Rosmarinic acid, citronellal, and luteolin are the key compounds responsible for these benefits. They work by increasing the activity of GABA, a neurotransmitter that has calming effects on the nervous system.

Lemon balm has been found to have cognitive-enhancing effects, and it may help to improve memory and concentration. Rosmarinic acid, eugenol, and triterpenoids are the compounds responsible for these benefits. They work by providing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help to protect brain cells from damage and improve cognitive function.

Lemon balm has been found to have mood-enhancing effects and may help to improve symptoms of depression and anxiety. Rosmarinic acid and eugenol are the compounds responsible for these benefits. They work by increasing the activity of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin, which are involved in regulating mood and emotions.

Lemon balm has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to reduce inflammation in the body. Rosmarinic acid, luteolin, and caffeic acid are the key compounds responsible for these benefits. They work by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and enzymes, which can reduce inflammation and prevent the development of chronic diseases.

Lemon balm has been used traditionally to support digestive health. The compounds responsible for these benefits include rosmarinic acid, eucalyptol, and geraniol. These compounds have antispasmodic and carminative effects, which can help to reduce digestive discomfort and improve digestion.

Lemon balm has been found to help reduce symptoms of PMS, including cramps, irritability, and mood swings. The compounds responsible for these benefits include rosmarinic acid and flavonoids. They work by reducing inflammation and balancing hormones.

Product FAQs

Rosmarinic acid is a polyphenol antioxidant that is found in many herbs, including lemon balm, rosemary, basil, thyme, and mint. It has been shown to have a variety of health benefits, including anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and anti-viral effects. Rosmarinic acid has also been shown to have potential neuroprotective and cardioprotective effects, and may help improve symptoms of allergies, asthma, and rheumatoid arthritis. Additionally, it has been shown to have antioxidant properties, which can help protect the body against the damaging effects of free radicals and oxidative stress.

Our lemon balm capsules contain a 6:1 lemon balm extract. This means that the strength of the extract is 6 times stronger than regular lemon balm powder. We've taken 3000mg of lemon balm leaves and concnetrated them six times which allows us to pack them into a single 500mg dose.

We found the lemon balm extract too sticky to encapsulate on it's own, so we needed to add a drier powder to help. We could have added flour, or alfalfa which is commonly added as a bulking agent but we wanted to keep our product as pure as could be so we added a small amount of dry lemon balm powder instead.

Organic Tapioca Maltodextrin and Colloidal anhydrous silica is not something we add ourselves, it is added during the manufacture of the lemon balm extract powder itself. This is because lemon balm leaves undergo a liquid form of extraction and the final result is a liquid. In order to encapsulate the lemon balm extract as a powder it needs to be dehydrated using a special method known as spray drying . For this process a drying agent is a required - this is where the maltodextrin and colloidal anhydrous silica come in - it is required as a drying agent, but it also helps maintain the bioactivity of the rosmarinic acid and other polyphenols for long-term storage. All encapsulated herbal extracts on the market will contain a drying agent of some sort either maltodextrin, inulin, flour or other substances. It is impossible to turn lemon balm extract from a liquid to a powder without one. These drying agents are typically not required to be declared on packaging as they are considered to be part of the Lemon Balm Extract ingredient itself, that's why many products don't list what drying agent has been used. However, as we are Certified Organic by the Soil Association we are required to show complete transparency and list all ingredients that go in our products hence we declare that there is tapioca maltodextrin and colloidal anhydrous silica in our product.
